Election '94

Went down to my old elementary school
(Which somehow seems appropriate)
To discharge my civic duty.

Nearly got buried in handouts
From the evangelical electioneers,
The political panhandlers working passers-by for spare votes.

Made my way to the booth
They say the voting booth
Isn't that different than the peep-show booth
And indeed there did seem to be something slimy on the levers,
Some disgusting discharge from the body politic.

Pulled my levers and left quickly as I could,
Past the electioneers who no longer were the least interested in me
And went home to wash my hands.
