``I wonder what birds think about aeroplanes?''

I wonder what birds think about aeroplanes?
Do the oldsters in the flock remember a time
Before the shiny metal giants joined them in the sky?
Are the planes gods and devils, or just irritating latecomers?
When a jet engine sucks one in, is it
An honor to be eaten by the Great Bird, or a sign of its displeasure,
Or just another empty space in the flock's flying formation?
I wonder what birds think about aeroplanes?
