The Fire Inside

Woke up this morning with my head on fire
Knew it was going to be one of those days.
Stumbled out of bed and headed for the shower
Put my head in the water, tried to put out the flames

But when the fire's inside, there's nothing you can do
When the fire's inside, it'll catch up to you.

There's a smell of smoke, there's a rumble of thunder
There's a lightning flash behind your eyes tonight.
A storm in the mind, like a hurricane swirling round
Winds to launch you on a star-bound flight.

When the fire's inside, there's nothing you can do
When the fire's inside, it'll catch up to you.

I dreamed that I had wings of lightning
Then the thunder woke me and took them away.
But sparks can linger, and start new fires,
And I woke up this morning with my head in flames!

When the fire's inside, there's nothing you can do
When the fire's inside, it'll catch up to you.
